In March 2024, HSE University celebrated an important milestone — the third anniversary of the successful operation in orbit of its first CubeSX-HSE and CubeSX-Sirius-HSE satellites. These spacecraft, created on the basis of the CubeSat platform for Earth observation, continue to function actively, confirming high technological standards and reliability of the university's developments.

The Mathematical Algorithms and Modelling in Telecommunications workshop is a joint project of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics and the YADRO company. In the workshop led by MIEM teachers and YADRO experts, HSE University students who successfully pass the selection process will look for solutions to pressing problems in the implementation of fourth- and fifth-generation mobile communications.

Following the meeting with participants of the 3rd Young Scientists Congress, Russian President Vladimir Putin assigned the government to include the creation and launch of small spacecraft in a new national project. Universities will also be involved in the project. Dmitrii Abrameshin, Head of the Mission Control Centre at the Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics at HSE University, spoke about the mechanism of small satellites and which satellites have already been launched by HSE University.

In December, the Indie Go space hosted a meeting with representatives of Indonesia’s game development industry. Colleagues from the ‘Game Engineering and Interactive Systems’ workshop of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) and the HSE Art and Design School learned about the intricacies of the Indonesian game industry and told the visitors about their own projects.

On September 1st, a new season of the open Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) started. This competition is aimed at developing the potential of university students who are interested in academic activities. Students, as well as 2023 graduates of Russian and foreign universities, can submit their papers for the competition until October 15^th, 2023. This year SRPC turns 20 years old, throughout the competition’s history, Vadim Radaev, HSE University’s First Vice Rector, has been the chair of the organising committee. In today’s interview, he talks about the history of the competition and the key stages in its development.

Nikita Anisimov was appointed Rector of HSE University two years ago. In his interview with Ernest Mackevičius, Director of the HSE University Institute of Media, journalist, and television presenter, the HSE rector talks about how he came to the university, its achievements and development plans, and how to tell the difference between AI-produced and human texts.

The Engineering and Mathematics School run by HSE University and VK is launching a new master’s track: AI Hardware and Software. The track will be part of the Master’s programme ‘Internet of Things and Cyber-physical Systems,’ and will be taught by VK experts and HSE University faculty.

The small CubeSX-HSE-3 spacecraft was created by students and staff of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics. It is based on the OrbiCraft-Pro 3U platform by Sputnix. The work was carried out as part of the Space-π project with support from the Innovation Support Fund.

Students from the Engineering and Mathematics School, a joint educational programme of HSE University and VK, defended their projects at the VK Moscow office. The students presented technology for generating animated 3D characters, a framework for the PHP language, an open service for creating neural networks and several other innovative IT solutions.
