About the School

The School of Electronic Engineering was created in 2015. Our research activity focuses on finding most effective engineering solutions in the field of electronics and nanoelectronics, condensed matter physics, information and communication devices and communication systems, intelligent control of technical systems. We implement the following educational programmes:

‘Infocommunication technologies and communication systems’, ‘Information Security’ (BS),

‘Applied Electronics and Photonics, ‘Internet of Things and Cyber-physical Systems’, ‘Information Security of Cyber-physical Systems’, ‘Cybersecurity’ (MS).

Tremors: Scientists Develop Method for Real-Time Tracking of Hazardous Underground Vibrations
Researchers from HSE MIEM and IPKON RAS have developed a new mathematical monitoring model that can identify the source of hazardous underground vibrations in real time. The technology could help reduce the risk of damage to buildings, roads, and other infrastructure located near quarries and mining sites. The paper has been published in Russian Mining Industry.

Forbes Education has published its ranking of the top 20 Russian universities with the strongest reputations among employers. As in recent years, HSE University secured first place with a reputation index of 98 points. In addition, 67.2% of employers stated that they trust the quality of education provided by HSE University, an increase of three percentage points compared with last year.

MIEM Tech Day at Pokrovka: Exploring HSE’s Engineering DNA Together
On May 26, 2026, the central atrium of the building at 11 Pokrovsky Bulvar will host the annual large-scale festival of engineering developments created by project teams from the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (HSE MIEM). The programme includes presentations of the best student technological projects, stands from partner companies and joint workshops, a lecture series featuring practising engineers, a round table on the development of engineering education, and presentations of MIEM master’s degree programmes.

Interdisciplinary research is a defining feature of modern science, and this trend is especially pronounced in the field of quantum technologies. Physics, chemistry, mathematics, and biology form the core fields of research at the Centre for Quantum Metamaterials of the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). In July 2025, Peking University hosted its annual Quantum Molecular Dynamics Summer School, which has moved onto an international stage. Its first foreign guests were students and postgraduates from the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM). They took part in an extensive academic programme and had the opportunity to visit a laboratory that works with optoelectronic materials and energy devices.
