DigitalSkills 2021, the 3rd WorldSkills Industry Championship in the field of information technologies, took place in the Republic of Tatarstan at the end of September. Alexey Shadrunov, a student of HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM), won a gold medal in ‘Corporate Protection Against Internal Threats to Information Security’.
A report by students of MIEM has won a prestigious prize at the 44th International Conference on Telecommunications and Signal Processing organized by Brno University of Technology in the Czech Republic. The project by the HSE students was named the best student work by the organizing committee.
The annual HSE Student Research Paper Competition (SRPC) helps young researchers try their hand in a real academic competition, where leading experts and professionals from HSE University assess their research papers. This year, participation will be open from September 1 to October 15.

On March 22 at 9:07 Moscow time, a Soyuz-2.1a rocket with a Fregat upper stage was successfully launched. The launch vehicle carried a total of 38 satellites from 18 countries into sun-synchronous orbits, including HSE University’s CubeSX-HSE satellite, which will conduct remote sensing of the Earth.
Multi-sensors developed at HSE MIEM (HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics) have become part of the NB-IoT network deployed by Russian network provider MTS at the Russian Antarctic station ‘Progress’. The main task of the system is to monitor runway conditions.
HSE University and MTS have launched a joint project to develop IoT devices (NB-IoT) within the framework of the Internet of Things and Cyber-Physical Systems Master’s Programme and as part of the project activities undertaken by students of HSE’s Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics. Students will have access to the equipment and the network in order to develop energy-efficient devices, while their professors will be provided with expert and advisory support from the MTS specialists.
