Socially Relevant Engineering Projects by MIEM HSE Students

Explaining how robots work by means of a video game; teaching children to count by means of a smartphone; and teaching a mechanical prosthesis to ‘think’ by means of processing brain signals – these tasks are very different in technical terms. But all three have been solved by HSE students as part of their engineering projects and have helped to improve lives.

Lecture on Atomistic Mechanism of the Constitutive Activation of PDGFRA Via Its Transmembrane Domain

Lecture of Anton Polyansky on 15 May 2018.
On Tuesday, May 15, seminar "Supercomputer and Multiscale Modelling of Condensed Phase and Biological Systems" was held. A. Polyansky from IBCh RAS gave a talk "Atomistic mechanism of the constitutive activation of PDGFRA via its transmembrane domain". The result of this study was the molecular model of PDGFRa receptor activation, and the role of its oncogenic mutant form have been revealed. On the second part of the seminar students of SAMMA Laboratory reported on their projects.

MIEM HSE Student Wins Apple WWDC Scholarship

Artur Davletshin, fourth-year student in Informatics and Computer Hardware and Software at MIEM HSE (supervisor Aleksandr Romanov, Associate Professor at the School of Computer Engineering) has won a scholarship for the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Artur will attend the WWDC in San Jose, California, from June 4 – 8.

HSE Students and Alumna Awarded S&T Grants

On February 8, the winners of the UMNIK competition were announced. The programme, run by the Small S&T Enterprises Assistance Fund, promotes young researchers’ innovation projects. Two HSE students and one HSE alumna will receive grants of 500,000 rubles to carry out research and further develop their S&T projects.

HSE MIEM Student on Internship at CERN

HSE MIEM Student on Internship at CERN
Elena Orlova, a fourth year student in Applied Mathematics at MIEM, took part in a summer school at CERN (European Organization for Nuclear Research, Geneva, Switzerland). As part of the GeantV Software Developer Team, she relied on machine learning to model the transition of elementary particles through matter.

Research Paper Competition Winners Can Get a Headstart on Their Academic Careers

The application period for HSE’s Student Research Paper Competition has started. The winners will have an opportunity to take part in workshops on academic skills development, while those in state-financed studies will improve their chances of seeing their academic scholarships increased. Also, in addition in HSE students, learners from other academic institutions are eligible for this competition.
