The Russian Science Foundation announced the results of its 2019 competitions for support from the Presidential Research Project Programme. One competition was for grants in support of research initiatives by early career researchers, and another was in support of research conducted by research groups headed by early career scholars.

On March 31 - April 5, the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) in Recife, Brazil, organized a BRIC-UFPE Scientific Workshop to discuss the recent scientific trends and projects, to strengthen cooperation between four BRIC countries, and promote collaboration.
The regular workshop organized by the International Laboratory for Supercomputer Atomistic Modelling and Multi-scale Analysis presented reports on the modern development of supercomputer technologies, on the HSE supercomputer, and on the results of solving various real problems using atomic modeling.
On January 22, a joint seminar of the School of Electronic Engineering and the Quantum Nanoelectronics Laboratory was held at MIEM HSE. MIEM postdoc Wilmer Yesid Cordoba Camacho gave a talk Vortex Patterns in Intertype Superconductivity Regime in Thin and Nanowire Superconductors.
Vladimir Podolskii, Head of HSE’s Big Data and Information Retrieval School, and Elena Vakulenko, Assistant Professor at the Department of Applied Economics, have both received awards for research in mathematics and labour studies, respectively.

JSC Glonass and the HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM HSE) have signed an agreement to work together in the field of satellite navigation technology in order to create services that foster the socioeconomic development of Russia and its regions.
Lecture on Atomistic Mechanism of the Constitutive Activation of PDGFRA Via Its Transmembrane Domain
On Tuesday, May 15, seminar "Supercomputer and Multiscale Modelling of Condensed Phase and Biological Systems" was held. A. Polyansky from IBCh RAS gave a talk "Atomistic mechanism of the constitutive activation of PDGFRA via its transmembrane domain". The result of this study was the molecular model of PDGFRa receptor activation, and the role of its oncogenic mutant form have been revealed. On the second part of the seminar students of SAMMA Laboratory reported on their projects.
The American Physical Society (APS) has recognised HSE MIEM Professor Lev Shchur for his innovative use of computer simulations and the development of superior random number generators for their use in statistical physics. Professor Shchur is the only academic working in Russia to be selected as APS Fellow in 2017.
