From November 6 to 10, the 30th Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference (APMC 2018) was held in Kyoto, Japan. MIEM HSE was represented by Semyon Presnyakov, a first-year postgraduate student of the School of Electronic Engineering.
From September 27 to September 28, in the city of Saratov on the basis of the department "Electronic devices and devices" of the School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering of the Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov, the 13th International Conference "Actual Problems of Electron Devices and Engineering" (APEDE’2018) was held. On Tuesday, May 15, seminar "Supercomputer and Multiscale Modelling of Condensed Phase and Biological Systems" was held. A. Polyansky from IBCh RAS gave a talk "Atomistic mechanism of the constitutive activation of PDGFRA via its transmembrane domain". The result of this study was the molecular model of PDGFRa receptor activation, and the role of its oncogenic mutant form have been revealed. On the second part of the seminar students of SAMMA Laboratory reported on their projects.
Last year, the Russian Federation gave leading universities the right to award their own academic degrees on a trial basis, and this prompted universities to create models for future implementation. What the new system will bring and what needs to be done in order to render it fully operational was the focus of the board meeting of the Association of Global Universities, held on February 12 at HSE.
The Higher School of Economics was recognized as a leader among Project 5-100 universities following a recent session held by the Council on Competitiveness Enhancement of Leading Russian Universities among Global Research and Education Centers. The session took place in Yekaterinburg on October 27-28 and was chaired by Olga Golodets, Deputy Prime Minister of Russia.
On July 6-8 the third international conference ‘Digital Information Processing, Data Mining and Wireless Communications’ was held at HSE MIEM. The event was dedicated to issues related to smart data processing and was supported by the Society of Digital Information and Wireless Communications (SDIWC), InfoWatch, and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI.
The MIEM Centre for Fractal Art presented a ‘Fractal architecture’ project by Nadezhda Trubochkina, and she was awarded the diploma of the Moscow Architecture Biennale for presenting new opportunities for using fractal mathematics and IT technologies for architects and interior designers.
Undergraduate and postgraduate students at the HSE Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics (MIEM) recently presented their innovations at the All-Russia Science Festival (NAUKA+). Among them were ‘intelligent electric outlets’, which eliminate worries about irons being left plugged in, and a device for measuring eye fatigue.
