About the laboratory
The main research area of the Quantum Nanoelectronics Laboratory (QNL) is the study of the fundamental issues of macroscopic quantum coherence and nonequilibrium quantum processes, forming the basis for a new generation of nanoelectronic devices that have the potential for applications in information, communication and computer technologies, and other types of electronic systems. The research program comprises a balanced combination of experiment, theory, numerical modeling, technological development, and design of prototypes of nanoelectronic devices. Accordingly, the work can be divided into the following five closely interconnected areas:
- Development of scientific and technological bases for the production and manufacturing of new nanostructured materials and quantum nanoelectronic systems.
- Development of scientific and technical foundations of microscopic and structural analysis of nanomaterials and low-dimensional quantum nanoelectronic systems.
- Development of scientific and technical basis for the study of the transport characteristics of low-dimensional quantum nanoelectronic systems at low and ultra-low temperatures.
- Development of theoretical models describing the transport characteristics of low-dimensional quantum nanoelectronic systems.
- Development of recommendations and design principles for the creation of competitive products, services and utilization of the research results.
We plan to study various phenomena and systems in which the quantum features of electron transport appear most clearly, lead to qualitatively new effects, and can be used to design elements of nanoelectronic circuits of the new generation.
Given the long-term nature of the QNL research efforts, the scientific problems proposed for the studies should be considered as seeds to new discoveries and developments. It is expected that as the research advances, novel ideas will be generated and interesting new directions will be opened for study.
