Administration
The School of Applied Mathematics was established in 2015 on the basis of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Cybernetics of MIEM, which has a history of more than half a century. Over the 50-year history of the faculty, recognized scientific schools have developed in key areas of development of applied mathematics and computer science. Today, the department is a dynamically developing department that combines fundamental traditions with the most modern educational and research trends.
The school implements a wide range of educational programs covering all levels of education:
Bachelor's program: "Applied Mathematics"
Master's programmes:
- "Systems Analysis and Mathematical Technologies", implemented by leading scientists of the department on the basis of scientific research in the field of development of control systems and information processing, as well as modern methods of mathematical and computer modeling
- "Applied Artificial Intelligence Models" (since 2023), designed jointly with a key partner — VK, which is deeply involved in the learning process and project activities
- "Digital Engineering for Computer Games" (first set in 2025) with an in—depth study of game engines and the game creation process; partner of the program is Elverils

Education – News
LG Electronics and the Higher School of Economics have announced the launch of a special collaborative educational project. A new computer classroom will provide students of engineering, industrial design, and computer programming the opportunity to study the most modern tools and methods of design using equipment designed for rapidly developing disciplines and the higher technological demands of their results. With a 21:9 aspect ratio, these monitors are currently the most conducive to solving such complex tasks at work and in school.

On March 22, the Higher School of Economics hosted a university conference, ‘Blended Learning: Experience, Success and Prospects.’ More than 100 teachers, academics and administrative staff from all HSE campuses met to discuss the strategic and practical issues of integrating a mixed education format into the learning process, as well as the challenges and benefits of combining traditional education with distance and online methods.
Last year, the Russian Federation gave leading universities the right to award their own academic degrees on a trial basis, and this prompted universities to create models for future implementation. What the new system will bring and what needs to be done in order to render it fully operational was the focus of the board meeting of the Association of Global Universities, held on February 12 at HSE.
HSE’s progress in the global rankings in 2017 can also be seen in the QS BRICS regional ranking, where HSE is now 39th among all universities, moving up 23 positions as compared to last year.
